Don Mueang Airport (DMK) to Bangkok: The 2026 Transport Guide

Don Mueang Is Closer Than You Think

DMK is roughly 25km north of central Bangkok — about 10km closer than Suvarnabhumi. If you're flying in on AirAsia, Thai Lion Air, Nok Air, or any low-cost carrier, this is where you'll land.

Transport from DMK is actually easier and cheaper than from BKK. Here's what you need to know.

Meter Taxi: 200-350 Baht

The official taxi stand is on the ground floor, just outside arrivals. DMK has a 50 baht airport surcharge too, but the shorter distance means lower fares overall.

To Khao San Road: 200-280 baht total
To Sukhumvit: 250-350 baht total
To Silom/Sathorn: 280-380 baht total

Time: 25-45 minutes. DMK is north of the city, so if you're heading south to Sukhumvit, you'll usually catch the expressway quickly.

Grab: 250-500 Baht

Grab pickup is at the departures level (Level 3). Quotes are usually 250-400 baht to central Bangkok. Cheaper than from BKK because the distance is shorter.

Bus A1: 30 Baht (The Budget Champion)

Route A1 runs from DMK to Chatuchak (Mo Chit BTS). Takes 30 minutes, costs 30 baht. From Mo Chit, you can take the BTS to wherever you're going.

Best for: Solo travelers with light bags heading to the northern Sukhumvit area or Chatuchak.

Private Transfer: The No-Brainer for Groups

If you're 2+ people with luggage, a private transfer from DMK starts around 400 baht. Split between two people, that's 200 baht each — same as a meter taxi but with a premium vehicle, English-speaking driver, and meet-and-greet service.

DMK vs BKK Transport Quick Facts

  • DMK to Sukhumvit: 250-350 baht by taxi, 25-45 min
  • BKK to Sukhumvit: 370-470 baht by taxi, 30-60 min
  • DMK is closer, cheaper, and usually faster.

Watch Out For

Taxi touts at DMK arrivals will approach you offering "fixed price" rides for 500+ baht. Walk past them to the official taxi queue. The meter is always cheaper.

Some meter taxi drivers at DMK will try to negotiate a flat rate instead of using the meter. Decline and insist on the meter. It's your legal right.
