Bangkok to Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima): Private Car Transfer Guide (2026)

Bangkok to Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima): Private Car Transfer Guide (2026)

Why the Bangkok to Korat Run Matters

Korat, officially Nakhon Ratchasima, is the biggest city in Thailand's Northeast and the gateway to Isan. People make this run for factory and business meetings, to visit family, to see the Khmer sanctuary at Phimai, or as the first leg of a longer Isan trip. Almost none of them realize how far it actually is until they look at a map: the real road distance is about 260 km, and the city sits on a plateau you climb onto after Saraburi.

That distance shapes every transport decision on this route. Here is what each option costs, in time and in baht.

The Route: Real Distance, Real Time

The standard mapped route leaves Bangkok on the eastern ring road, joins Route 32 north at Bang Pa-in, runs Route 1 up to Saraburi, then climbs Route 2 onto the Korat plateau. About 260 km door to door, typically 3 to 3.5 hours with one short break.

Two timing notes from experience. Leave before 7am and you clear the eastern ring road and the Bang Pa-in junction before they clog. And avoid Friday afternoons if you can: weekend traffic heading northeast turns the Saraburi stretch into a slow crawl.

Your Options, With Real Numbers

Train. Departures from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, several a day. Third class costs under ฿100; air-conditioned classes run a few hundred baht. Travel time is around four to five hours. Cheap and scenic once you are past the suburbs, but you arrive at Korat station and still need local transport to your final address.

Government bus. From Mo Chit, roughly ฿150 to ฿200, about 4 hours. Comfortable enough, same last-mile problem at the Korat terminal.

Minivan. Around ฿200 a seat, a bit faster, and the least luggage-friendly option on this list. Fine solo with a backpack, miserable with a suitcase.

Private car. Our intercity rate is a flat ฿20 per km, and the mapped route is about 260 km, so the Bangkok to Korat run prices around ฿5,200 one way, fixed and quoted before you book. Hotel lobby or airport arrivals to your exact address in Korat, one driver, no transfers, luggage stays in the boot. Electric SUV, so no fuel-surcharge games.

The Day Trip Version: Korat City Plus Phimai

Plenty of travelers do Korat as a long day out of Bangkok. The anchor is usually Phimai Historical Park, about 50 km north of the city: one of the largest Khmer sanctuaries in Thailand, with a museum next door that is worth 45 minutes on its own. Add lunch in Korat's old town and you have a full, unhurried day.

A day trip adds real distance on top of the base run, so it is quoted as a day rate that includes the driver's waiting time. Tell us the stops you want and you get one number before you commit.

Who Should Book What

  • Solo, light luggage, flexible: train or bus. Cheapest way to cover 260 km in Thailand.
  • Two or more people: do the math. Two minivan seats plus taxis at both ends closes most of the gap to a private car, and the private car goes door to door.
  • Business day trip, or any trip on a clock: private car, no contest. The driver waits, you leave when you finish.
  • Connecting from a flight: we pick up at Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang arrivals with a name sign, same fixed pricing. See our airport transfer page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can we stop at Khao Yai on the way?

Yes. The Pak Chong side of Khao Yai sits right off Route 2 before Korat, so a winery or viewpoint stop fits the route naturally. It becomes a custom itinerary day, quoted with waiting time.

How far in advance should I book?

One to two days ahead is comfortable for most dates. For long weekends and festival periods, earlier is better; private drivers across Bangkok book out days ahead in those windows.

Is the price the same coming back?

The flat per-km rate applies in both directions, so a round trip is the same math twice. Book it as one round trip and the driver and schedule stay consistent.
