Bangkok to Khao Yai by Private Car: Prices, Stops, Timing

Bangkok to Khao Yai by Private Car: Prices, Stops, Timing

Khao Yai looks close on the map — two hours northeast of Bangkok — but most of what you're going for sits 20 to 40 minutes past Pak Chong town: the vineyards, the resorts on Thanarat Road, the national park gate. That last stretch is why so many people end up booking a private car instead of a bus. Here's what the trip actually costs and how to time it.

The drive itself

Two routes, and drivers pick based on traffic:

  • Route 1 → Route 2. Expressway out of the city, north on Phahonyothin Road, cut onto Mittraphap Road at Saraburi, exit at Pak Chong. The standard run.
  • Motorway 9 north. Same idea, swings wider around the city. Better when Rangsit is jammed.

Central Bangkok to Pak Chong is 120–130 km, 1.5–2 hours without drama. To a resort on Thanarat Road or the park gate, add 30–45 minutes. From Suvarnabhumi, figure 2–2.5 hours; from Don Mueang, closer to 2. Tolls run ฿60–120 each way.

What a private car costs

Honest market rates, one way:

  • Sedan booked as a fixed-price transfer: ฿1,800–2,800
  • SUV or van (6 seats plus luggage): ฿2,500–3,500
  • Same-day round trip with the driver waiting: ฿3,500–5,000

A proper fixed quote includes tolls, fuel, and one or two stops. If someone quotes you ฿900 "same price, boss," that number will grow at the toll gate.

Private car vs bus, train, Grab

Bus. Mo Chit 2 to Pak Chong, ฿130–180, about 3 hours. Comfortable enough. The problem: most Khao Yai hotels are 15–30 km from the drop-off, and a song
