The Business District Run
Silom and Sathorn are Bangkok's financial heart — the CBD. If you're staying at the Lebua, the Banyan Tree, the Sukosol, the W, or any of the business hotels along Silom Road, this is your route.
It's also one of the most predictable airport runs in Bangkok. Unlike Sukhumvit traffic (which is chaos at any hour), the BKK-to-Silom route via the expressway is fairly stable: 30-45 minutes most of the time, 60 minutes in peak.
The Route
From BKK, the driver takes the Sirat Expressway west toward the city, then exits at the Silom/Sathorn junction. Two toll gates: 70 + 50 baht. Total toll cost: 120 baht on meter taxis (you pay this), included in Grab and private transfer quotes.
Meter Taxi: 350-500 Baht
Official taxi queue, Level 1 arrivals. To Silom/Sathorn area: meter reads 280-380, plus 50 baht airport surcharge and 120 baht in tolls. Total: 450-550 baht all-in.
Time: 30-45 minutes normal traffic, 60-75 minutes during evening rush (5-7pm).
Risk: Same as every airport meter taxi — some drivers refuse the meter and quote 600-800 flat. Walk away, get the next one.
Grab: 400-700 Baht
Grab pickup is Level 2, Door 4. Upfront pricing, no toll confusion. To Silom: typically 400-550 baht normal, 600-800 during peak.
Time: 35-50 minutes + 5-10 minute wait for the driver to reach the pickup point.
Private Transfer: The Business Traveler's Choice
If you're in Bangkok for business, time and reliability matter more than saving 50 baht. A pre-booked private transfer to Silom gives you:
- Flight tracking: Driver adjusts for early/late arrivals automatically.
- WiFi in the car: Catch up on emails on the way in.
- No payment friction: Corporate accounts available, receipt provided.
- Fixed price: Known before you land, no receipt surprises for expense reports.
- Premium vehicle: Clean SUV, AC blasting, water provided. Not a worn-out Toyota Altis.
Fixed price to Silom/Sathorn: ฿500-600 — competitive with GrabSUV and significantly better experience.
Silom vs Sathorn — Which Exit?
Silom Road and Sathorn Road run parallel, about 400 meters apart. Your hotel location matters for the driver:
- Silom proper: Exit at Silom junction. Hotels: Lebua, Banyan Tree area.
- North Sathorn: Exit at Sathorn. Hotels: W, Sukosol, diplomatic missions.
- South Sathorn (Naradhiwas): Continue one more exit. Less traffic.
When booking, give the hotel name, not just the road. Thai drivers know hotels better than street numbers.
Returning: Silom to BKK Airport
The reverse run is trickier because of Bangkok's notorious evening traffic. If your flight is between 5-8pm, leave Silom 3 hours before flight time, not 2. The expressway entrance at Silom backs up badly during rush hour — 20 minutes just to get on the highway.
Book your airport transfer with flight details and we'll calculate the right pickup time automatically.
